Karena Albers

Karena Albers, born 1956, is the Director of The Earth Awards, an aspirational platform for consumer-driven ideas that challenge designers and innovators to build a new economy, and co-founder of New York-based production company, kontentreal.[1][2]

Business Life

Albers launched her own marketing company, Integrated Marketing International, which was later acquired by Fox Entertainment.[2]

Following this, Albers’ co-founded kontentreal, in 2003 with Tad Fettig, which has produced films for PBS and the Sundance Channel.[2][3] kontentreal debuted its first episodic series on PBS, "e² design", in the summer of 2006.[3]

Headquartered in New York, and the brainchild of Tad Fettig and Karena Albers, kontentreal produces documentaries that raise awareness of global environmental issues. Both were veterans of the advertising world — Fettig as a commercial cinematographer specializing in rigorous location shoots for clients including Levi's and The North Face, Albers out of DDB in Chicago.[4]

The Earth Awards

An annual competition since 2007, The Earth Awards originated from a collective of creative thinkers who were designers, architects, scientists, writers, and entrepreneurs. The goal is to transform visionary ideas into market-ready solutions by offering finalists the unique opportunities to pitch their project to world business leaders.

Open to students, graduates and industry professionals, The Earth Awards invites the public to submit their innovations to be judged.[5]
